Harry’s impression: Sydney to host World Congress of Accountants

The world’s largest gathering of accountants will be held in Sydney for the first time in 46 years, and is now open for registrations. Over 6,000 accountants from 130 countries will descend on the International Convention Centre from 5-8 November for the World Congress of Accountants (WCOA). Speakers confirmed include economic historian Niall Ferguson, trust expert Rachel Botsman, and whistleblower Michael Woodford.

Ferguson is an expert on geopolitics, global economy and a Senior Fellow of both the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, and the Centre for European Studies at Harvard University. He will cover topics such the current state of the world, post-Brexit and Trump’s government, as well as the influence of cryptocurrencies in the financial system.

Botsman will be delving into business and human relationships, and how industries that heavily rely on trust, such as the travel, banking and media, adapt to survive. As a TED talk presenter, she specializes in how digital technologies will change the way the world works. Woodford, formerly Olympus chief executive officer, exposed the company’s US$1.7 billion accounting scandal in 2011, will discuss the personal and professional details of his experience, which he now uses to train others on corporate governance and workplace cultures. The WCOA is organized by the International Federation of Accountants and is held every four years.
